Norwegian Cruise Ship Featuring Race Track and 10-Story Slide Set to Return to Galveston

Norwegian Cruise Ship with Go-Kart Track and 10-Story Slide Returns to Galveston

The Norwegian Prima, an innovative cruise ship, is slated to return to the Texas coast, offering an exhilarating experience for passengers with its go-kart racing and a 10-story dry slide. This cruise ship aims to provide Gulf Coast travelers with a convenient alternative for reaching the Caribbean without needing to fly to Florida.

Starting in late April 2028, Norwegian Cruise Line plans to operate seven-day round-trip cruises from Galveston. The service will continue through October, with reservations available since August 11, allowing travelers ample time to plan their trips. These cruises will stop at four Caribbean destinations, coupled with several days to enjoy the ship’s unique attractions.

According to reports from The Houston Chronicle, the Prima will visit Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, Roatán in Honduras, and Harvest Caye in Belize. This ship has previously sailed from Galveston during the 2023-2024 winter season.

Weeklong Cruises to Four Destinations

The week-long cruises will depart Galveston for seven days in the Western Caribbean. Harvest Caye serves as Norwegian’s resort-style destination in southern Belize, while Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatán are known for their beautiful beaches and access to various excursions and attractions. Travelers are advised to review the complete itinerary to confirm specific arrival times and the sequence of ports.

Unique Features of Norwegian Prima

Since entering service in 2022, the Norwegian Prima has a capacity of approximately 3,195 passengers and a crew of over 1,500, spanning 965 feet in length. One of its standout features is the Prima Speedway, a three-level go-kart track that stretches for more than a quarter mile. It accommodates up to 15 racers at once, navigating through 14 turns at speeds that can exceed 30 mph.

Another attraction is The Drop, a thrilling dry slide that starts 10 stories high. The ship also boasts infinity pools, an open-air promenade called Ocean Boulevard, various specialty restaurants and bars, live entertainment, and a virtual-reality gaming area. Note that some amenities may require reservations or incur additional charges.

Galveston’s Growing Cruise Options

Norwegian’s return aligns with a broader expansion at the Port of Galveston, which signed a 10-year agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings in 2024, solidifying operations at Cruise Terminal 16. Additionally, Norwegian Viva is anticipated to operate from Galveston from October 2026 through spring 2027, further enhancing the cruise offerings in the region.

Fares for these upcoming sailings will vary based on the date, cabin type, and demand. Travelers planning to book these new cruises should consider the total cost, including taxes, port fees, and any optional onboard packages.
