The first of three gigablocks for Disney’s upcoming cruise ship, Disney Believe, has been successfully floated out at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. This particular gigablock forms the ship’s central section and includes notable areas such as the Grand Hall. Following this, the assembly of the forward gigablock will commence.
Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the exact dates for Disney Believe‘s homeport and itineraries remain unannounced. Previously, the ship’s construction began with steel cutting in August 2025. Each of Disney Believe’s gigablocks can weigh upwards of 31,000 tons, and this stage includes constructed walls, plumbing, and wiring, though internal finishes like carpets and artwork will be applied later.
The Grand Hall, uniquely themed around the character Moana with her companions Pua and Heihei, will feature significant Polynesian design elements. Initial photos indicate that while lifeboat davits are in place, the lifeboats themselves have yet to be installed.
As construction advances, the next phase involves assembling the forward section, which will house the main theater and various lounges, followed by the aft gigablock, which will include the two main themed dining restaurants. Disney has yet to announce the themes of these new dining experiences onboard Disney Believe.
The ship construction process utilizes a block method, allowing teams to work simultaneously on different sections, thus expediting the entire assembly. As anticipation builds for the completion of Disney Believe, updates regarding its inaugural dates and additional details about the ship’s offerings are expected to be released in the near future.
