Holland America Line to Celebrate Pan Am’s 100th Anniversary with a 28-Day Caribbean Voyage

Holland America Line will mark Pan American World Airways’ 100th anniversary with a 28-day Caribbean and Central America voyage aboard Zuiderdam.

The Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage will depart roundtrip from Miami on October 30, 2027, visiting destinations connected to the airline’s historic routes. The programme will combine aviation-history presentations, themed dining and specially developed shore excursions.

Onboard programmes revisit Pan Am’s history

Aviation historians, former industry professionals and other speakers will explore Pan Am’s growth and its influence on international travel. Topics will include the airline’s people and innovations, its Pacific Clipper journey during the Second World War, its South American routes, and its service standards and staff training.

The voyage will also recreate elements of the Clipper Club, Pan Am’s private airport lounges, with experiences inspired by their dining, relaxation and premium hospitality.

Clipper-era dining and cocktails

Themed menus will feature dishes associated with the airline’s era of prominence, including cocktail de crevettes, cream of tomato soup, filet mignon, sole en croûte and Grand Marnier soufflé.

Two cocktails will be created for the programme. The Pan Am Cocktail will combine white rum, Campari, orgeat, lemon juice and egg white, while the Clipper Cocktail will feature Mount Gay Eclipse rum, Dolin Blanc and grenadine.

Excursions along historic routes

Shore excursions will connect the destinations on the itinerary with Pan Am’s aviation legacy and local history.

In Cartagena, Colombia, guests can tour in classic roadsters, sample local food and learn about the city’s history as an emerald-trading centre during Pan Am’s golden age.

In Colón, Panama, an excursion will visit the Agua Clara Locks and travel on the Panama Canal Railway, highlighting infrastructure that helped connect the region.

In St. John’s, Antigua, a tour of Shirley Heights will trace the routes of Pan Am navigators and offer views across the harbour.

In Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, guests can visit Chaguaramas, a former Pan Am flying-boat base, and the Chaguaramas Military History and Aerospace Museum.

Together, the presentations, dining and excursions will bring Pan Am’s aviation heritage into the 28-day cruise itinerary.
