Ponant Explorations will return to Antarctica for the 2028–29 season with 12 expedition itineraries, nearly 30 departures and voyages ranging from 10 to 59 nights. The program includes sailings in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys and The Explorers Club.
The season spans classic Antarctic Peninsula routes, Weddell Sea voyages and Ponant’s second full circumnavigation of the continent. “Our 2028-29 Antarctic season showcases the extraordinary diversity of experiences available across the White Continent,” said Ponant CEO Samuel Chamberlain.
Le Commandant Charcot will operate the 59-night circumnavigation, departing Ushuaia, Argentina, on January 11, 2029. The journey is divided into two segments and includes an overnight stay in Hobart, Tasmania, on February 9.

- The Great Austral Loop: Le Boréal and Le Lyrial, 17 nights, with four departures between November 2028 and February 2029.
- The Weddell Sea and Larsen Ice Shelf: Le Commandant Charcot, 12 nights, departing December 16, 2028.
- Beyond the Antarctic Circle – In the Wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot: Le Commandant Charcot, 14 nights, departing December 28, 2028.
- New Zealand’s Subantarctic Islands: Le Soléal, 14 nights, with two departures from December 2028 to January 2029.
- Ross Sea expedition: Le Soléal, 21 nights, with two departures from January to February 2029.
- Falklands, South Georgia and Valdés Peninsula: Le Lyrial, 18 nights, departing February 27, 2029.
Guests can also add a three-night stay at Iguazú Falls after their voyage. Onboard, expedition teams and naturalist guides will lead activities such as Zodiac excursions, shore landings, kayaking, hiking and snowshoeing. Fares start at $15,450 per person.
