AmaWaterways Adds Six-Day Machu Picchu Cruisetour Extension for 2027

AmaWaterways will add a five-night land extension to its Magic of Colombia cruisetour itinerary in 2027, giving guests the option to explore Peru and visit Machu Picchu after their river cruise.

The six-day programme will initially be offered on selected departures from April 2027. From 2028, it is scheduled to be available after every departure of the itinerary. Following disembarkation in Cartagena, guests will fly to Lima, with the flights included in the package.

The journey continues through Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, culminating in a privately guided visit to Machu Picchu. In Lima, guests will visit the Miraflores and Barranco districts before travelling to Cusco to explore its historic architecture, Inca heritage and regional cuisine.

The itinerary also includes Ollantaytambo, the Maras salt pans, Moray’s agricultural terraces, Cusco’s historic centre, the former Inca temple of Koricancha and the hilltop fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Guests will travel to Machu Picchu aboard either the Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train, or first-class Inca Rail, accompanied by a local guide at the archaeological site.

Two hotel options will be available. The Boutique package includes The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, Tambo del Inka and Palacio del Inka. The Iconic option features Miraflores Park in Lima and Monasterio in Cusco, both Belmond properties. Each package combines hotel stays with culinary experiences and opportunities to discover Peru’s cultural and natural heritage.

AmaWaterways said the extension reflects its broader focus on curated travel experiences beyond its river cruises. It will be the company’s first dedicated land journey in Peru.
