Foreign cruise ship arrivals in South Korea reached 1.28 million from January through August, up 12 percent from the same period last year, according to the Korea Tourism Organization. The figure includes passengers and crew members.
China accounted for the largest share of visitors, at 57.7 percent. Seogwipo, on Jeju Island, received more than half of all cruise arrivals during the eight-month period.
A further 148 port calls, bringing a projected 638,905 passengers, are scheduled for the fourth quarter. If those arrivals materialize, South Korea’s annual cruise visitors could exceed 2 million—surpassing last year’s record of 1.6 million.
