Royal Caribbean Announces Latest Updates on Icon’s Upcoming Cruise Schedule

In an update communicated to guests with reservations, Royal Caribbean International has provided information regarding the upcoming cruise aboard the Icon of the Seas.

After a recent sailing was canceled in late September, the 250,800-ton vessel is currently in a wet dock at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport.

The company has indicated that unexpected maintenance work is currently being performed on the LNG-powered ship, which began operations in January.

“These repairs are underway, and we are confident that they will be completed in time to resume regular itineraries by our October 5, 2024, sailing,” Royal Caribbean stated.

“For now, our sailing will continue as scheduled. As the date approaches, we’ll keep you updated on our progress,” the company further mentioned.

The Icon of the Seas is set to depart from PortMiami on Saturday for a week-long cruise to the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas.

This itinerary includes stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as visits to St. Thomas and St. Maarten.

Royal Caribbean opted to withdraw the Icon of the Seas from service following propulsion problems reported during its departure on September 21, 2024.

“The ship is presently undergoing maintenance and will operate at a reduced speed. Unexpected maintenance occurs, and our teams are diligently working to resolve the issue swiftly,” the company mentioned in a letter to passengers aboard at that time.

To allow for the necessary repairs, the cruise scheduled for September 28, 2024, was subsequently canceled, with the Icon heading to the Grand Bahama Shipyard shortly after dropping off passengers in Miami.

Guests affected by the canceled cruise were given a full refund of their fare and a Future Cruise Credit of the same value.

Royal Caribbean also reimbursed flights booked through their services and provided compensation for passengers who made their own travel arrangements.
