American Liberty Embarks on Its Maiden Voyage: A New Era in Cruise Travel

American Cruise Lines recently celebrated the launch of their latest vessel, the American Liberty, with a ceremony held in Newport, as per their press release.

The event was hosted at Fort Adams State Park, including cruise attendees and local community figures, where the vessel that can accommodate 100 passengers was prominently displayed during its initial journey.

Key attendees of the American Liberty’s christening included guests, community leaders, representatives from Sail Newport and Fort Adams State Park, alongside a group of crewmembers and American Cruise Lines executives.

During the ceremony, Charles B. Robertson, president & CEO of American Cruise Lines, delivered a speech. Clare Harington, the ship’s godmother and vice commodore of the New York Yacht Club, also addressed the gathering.

“Hosting this event at Fort Adams State Park with our esteemed community partners and Sail Newport is a privilege. Having Vice Commodore Clare Harington as the godmother of the American Liberty makes it even more special,” Robertson stated.

“Our goal is to continue nurturing our longstanding relationships in Newport and with other historic coastal communities along the Eastern Seaboard,” he continued.

Brad Read, executive director of Sail Newport, and Lauren Carson, RI state representative, praised American Cruise Lines’ dedication to eco-friendly cruising and their recent introduction of smaller, more sustainable vessels.

The ceremony featured musical performances by The Victory Belles, who played patriotic tunes while participants joined in the ship’s deck for the traditional blessing and bottle smashing, as disclosed by American Cruise Line.

The celebration concluded with a classic New England Lobster bake and participants enjoyed a live demonstration and discussion about traditional Native American cooking techniques at Fort Adams State Park.

The American Liberty, a member of the Coastal Cat series, embarked on its maiden voyage on August 15, 2024, from Providence with a fully booked itinerary through New England’s destinations including New Bedford, Nantucket Island, and Martha’s Vineyard.
