After several days filled with uncertainty due to storm-related closures, port changes, and even a cruise cancellation, those looking forward to boarding Carnival Paradise can breathe a sigh of relief. The ship’s departure on September 30, 2024, is set to proceed as scheduled.

Carnival Cruise Line has sent a communication to guests who have booked the Monday sailing, confirming the details regarding embarkation.

“Embarkation for your cruise will take place as planned,” the message stated. “We ask that you arrive at the cruise terminal for check-in during your designated Terminal Arrival Appointment. To ensure a smooth departure, all guests must be on board by the final boarding time noted on your boarding pass.”

Passengers have the opportunity to select their terminal arrival appointments during the check-in process for their sailing. Online check-in opens 14 days before the cruise and closes at midnight the day prior to departure.

For guests who have achieved Platinum and Diamond status in the cruise line’s VIFP loyalty program, check-in is available 16 days prior to sailing. This is a highly sought-after perk that allows for the selection of the most advantageous terminal arrival times.

Those preparing to board Carnival Paradise may have felt anxious, especially recently, as the ship returned after Port Tampa Bay reopened following Hurricane Helene.

Despite the ship proceeding to the cruise terminal for debarkation promptly, it subsequently departed the terminal without new passengers onboard. This situation could heighten concerns about whether the ship is indeed ready to welcome its new guests.

Recent satellite tracking information reveals that Carnival Paradise is now docked in a different section of Port Tampa Bay, specifically in an area generally designated for cargo vessels.

This temporary shift could merely be a logistical decision to clear space for other passenger cruise ships at the terminal that needed to process their boarding and disembarking guests.

On Sunday, Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas, and Enchantment of the Seas were actively embarking and debarking passengers in Tampa.

Since Carnival Paradise had to cancel its current sailing due to lengthy port closure delays, it appears practical for the idle ship to be relocated within the port until Monday, September 30, when it will welcome its next set of passengers. This relocation does not impede the ship’s ability to receive supplies, undergo cleaning, and refuel for its subsequent voyage.

The upcoming cruise is a 6-night journey through the Western Caribbean, scheduled to set sail on a Monday. The itinerary includes stops at Belize City (Wednesday), Roatan (Thursday), and Cozumel (Friday), contingent on favorable weather conditions.

Currently, there is a developing low-pressure system in the Western Caribbean that may make its way toward the Yucatan peninsula in the near future. While this could potentially affect the scheduled ports of call, it’s too early to foresee any alterations at this stage.

The Carnival Paradise, which weighs 71,925 gross tons, is based year-round at Port Tampa Bay. It typically provides a range of 4-, 5-, and 6-night cruises to both the Western Caribbean and the Bahamas, depending on the specific sailing date.

The schedule of the ship was significantly affected by Hurricane Helene, which made its way through the Western Caribbean and moved north into the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Florida.

This led to changes in the vessel’s itinerary, the closure of her homeport, a delay in returning, and the cancellation of her next voyage.

Initially, when these changes were implemented, Carnival Paradise was on a cruise that began on September 21, which was meant to last five nights. Unfortunately, the ship was unable to dock at Cozumel as scheduled and had to reroute to Costa Maya instead.

Subsequently, Port Tampa Bay was closed on the night of September 25, which prevented Carnival Paradise from returning to port as originally intended on September 26. As a result, the ship had to stay at sea to weather the storm, keeping it safe from harm’s reach.

The port remained closed due to localized flooding and required inspections, leading to a 5-night cruise extending into 6 nights, then 7 nights, and nearly reaching 8 nights. Finally, Port Tampa Bay reopened in the late afternoon of Saturday, September 28, marking the return of Carnival Paradise as the first cruise ship.

Due to the extensive delay, the September 26 cruise was cancelled, but the ship will be refreshed, pristine, and prepared to deliver FUN to up to 2,040 guests on Monday, September 30, as it embarks on its next journey.
