Seaventure Transitions to New Ownership: A Look at the Chinese Buyout

History was made recently in Hong Kong, as the world’s first Chinese polar cruise brand, 66° Expedition Cruise, officially took delivery of the Seaventure. This marks a significant milestone in the realm of polar exploration travel. The ship was transferred from its previous ownership under Scylla, indicating an exciting new beginning for polar tourism in China.

66° Expedition Cruise is a collaborative venture that includes Guangdong Tourism Holdings, Guangdong Port and Shipping Group, along with several private enterprises. The delivery ceremony attracted notable attendees, such as Qianguo Luo, Yiming Hu, and Jie Cheng, who are influential leaders from Guangdong Tourism and Shipping. They reiterated the importance of the Seaventure in furthering China’s ambitions in the polar tourism sector.

The Seaventure, which accommodates 150 guests, will initially operate on a charter arrangement in Antarctica with Polar Latitudes. In the summer months, it plans to sail under new branding in the Arctic, appealing to both Chinese and Western guests. This vessel was previously known as Hapag Lloyd’s Bremen, one of the pioneering expedition ships in the industry.
