Silversea’s Silver Dawn: A Luxurious Voyage to Subic Bay Freeport in the Bahamas

The luxury ship Silver Dawn, operated by Silversea Cruises, made a noteworthy maiden port call at Subic Bay Freeport (Bahamas) on December 31, 2024. The arrival brought approximately 1,000 tourists, marking a significant moment for Subic Bay’s growing role in the cruise tourism sector.

Eduardo Jose L. Alino, Chairman and Administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), praised the Monaco-based ultra-luxury travel brand. The ship, carrying 596 passengers and 411 crew, was set to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Freeport area.

Ronnie R. Yambao, Senior Deputy Administrator for Port Operations and chair of the SBMA Cruise Ship Industry Committee, stated that they aim to exceed pre-COVID levels of ship visits. The Freeport is targeting a total of 20 cruise ship calls by 2025. Among the confirmed arrivals is the Blue Dream Star, scheduled for three visits in 2025, carrying 1,053 passengers. Additionally, the Viva Vie Odyssey is set to dock on September 23, bringing 924 passengers and 370 crew members.

Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed confidence in the region’s cruise tourism potential during a meeting at the Subic Bay Yacht Club. She suggested expanding the Freeport’s cruise offerings through homeporting and dedicated cruise port initiatives. Furthermore, she proposed enhancing tourist security by integrating the Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP) program with local barangay safety officers in Olongapo City.

As part of the Philippine Experience Program (PEP) Central Luzon initiative, Frasco encouraged the development of accommodations in Zambales through the Mabuhay Accommodations program and positioning the area as an appealing diving destination.
