Fincantieri Signs €9 Billion Agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH)

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has reached a significant agreement with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of four new cruise ships, valued at approximately €9 billion (USD 9.34 billion). This deal marks the largest single order in Fincantieri’s history.

Previously, Fincantieri has delivered two ships to NCL—Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva—and is on track to deliver the Norwegian Aqua in 2025 and the Norwegian Luna in 2026. The new ships will each have a tonnage of around 226,000 GT and accommodate over 4,200 passengers, with construction taking place at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard. The deliveries are scheduled for 2030, 2032, 2034, and 2036.

This partnership reflects a broader strategic expansion, involving new ship classes designed for NCL’s luxury brands, including Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises. The focus will be on technological advancements, passenger comfort, and environmental sustainability.

Fincantieri’s CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, which he believes will help shape the future of maritime travel through innovation and enhanced guest experiences.

In addition to shipbuilding, Fincantieri is also diversifying into the defense and underwater sectors and has recently acquired part of Leonardo’s UAS submarine business. Following the announcement of the deal, shares of Fincantieri saw a notable increase on the Milan stock exchange.
