BIRKA GOTLAND Marks First Anniversary with Record-Breaking Passenger Traffic

Swedish cruise ship BIRKA GOTLAND has achieved a significant milestone by celebrating its first anniversary of service. In its inaugural year, the vessel has visited seven ports in the Baltic Sea and accommodated over 532,000 passengers. The CEO, Kenneth Gustavsson, noted that the ship has made adjustments to enhance its offerings for Swedish travelers and plans for further improvements are underway.

The ship, which underwent a SEK 70 million (approximately US$7 million) refurbishment before its launch in March 2024, has seen upgrades, including a redesigned spa and modifications to its onboard features tailored to the preferences of Swedish passengers. Gustavsson emphasized the company’s commitment to establishing BIRKA GOTLAND as the top cruise experience in Sweden, highlighting ongoing enhancements in areas like dining, entertainment, and relaxation.

Impressively, bookings for the period from May to June have surged by 30% compared to the previous year, reflecting the growing popularity of the cruise. In addition to its main routes connecting Stockholm, Åland, and Visby, the ship has also explored additional destinations such as the High Coast, Ystad, Bornholm, and Riga. As the summer season of 2025 approaches, BIRKA GOTLAND is set to offer a diverse range of shorter and longer itineraries around the Baltic Sea.
