Costa Diadema and MSC Seaview: New Hosts for COP30-UN Climate Change Conference
In preparation for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) slated for November 10-21 in Belem, Brazil, a significant maritime logistics operation is underway involving two major cruise ships. The Costa Diadema and MSC Seaview, which can accommodate over 9,500 guests collectively, are to be used as floating hotels for international delegates.
The vessels are set to dock at Outeiro Port from November 5 until November 22, with operations extending slightly beyond the conference’s official closure. This initiative was presented by government representatives during a briefing attended by officials from 103 embassies in Brasília, aimed at showcasing Brazil’s readiness to host one of the largest annual events coordinated by the United Nations. As part of the preparations, images of the cruise ships have been shared with foreign delegates, illustrating a commitment to effective logistical arrangements.
The Belem Waterway Terminal is also undergoing expansion, doubling its capacity to serve as the main reception facility for conference attendees arriving by ship. Alongside maritime facilities, an additional 400 accommodations will be provided in the Vila de Lideres for officials, with further housing options being arranged from hotels, private homes, and apartments throughout the city to collectively aim for around 32,000 beds to support the influx of conference participants.
