Sky Princess Experiences Flooding Due to Burst Pipe Incident
On the evening of April 8, 2025, the cruise ship Sky Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, suffered a significant flooding incident due to a burst pipe located on Deck 7.
The situation arose around 10:45 p.m. local time during the ship’s 7-night round-trip voyage from Southampton, England. The flooding originated from an overflow at the Sky Pool on Deck 16, causing water to cascade through multiple decks and flood the Piazza atrium on decks 5 and 6.
In response to the emergency, public address systems prompted passengers to head to their designated muster stations. However, confusion spread among guests due to false fire alarms triggered by technical issues, adding urgency to the response.
Shipboard teams quickly activated emergency procedures to stop the water flow and began cleanup efforts. According to Princess Cruises, the flooding was mostly restricted to the Piazza, and operations in other entertainment areas remained unaffected. By the morning of April 9, passengers were allowed to return to the affected areas.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the vessel’s itinerary continued as planned, with stops including Cherbourg, France, before returning to Southampton on April 12.
