Ponant Cruises Unveils Major Revamp of the MS Paul Gauguin: What You Need to Know
Ponant Cruises, through its subsidiary Paul Gauguin Cruises, has successfully completed an extensive 7-week refurbishment of the ms Paul Gauguin in Singapore, with the ship returning to service on April 1, 2025. This major drydock overhaul focused on enhancing public areas, accommodations, and environmental systems to meet modern maritime standards and promote sustainability.
Under the direction of Stirling Design International, the vessel underwent a significant aesthetic modernization while still preserving its South Pacific charm. Enhancements included improvements to guest amenities and technical infrastructure that aim to elevate passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

New Connecting Staterooms: Eight new connecting staterooms were added on Deck 7 to cater to families traveling together. These rooms support the ship’s family-oriented programs, including the “Moana Explorer Program” created in partnership with Te mana o te moana, a South Pacific marine conservation organization.

Le Grill Restaurant Redesign: The open-air dining venue was given a fresh look with white wood accents, ceramic tiles, and light oak furnishings, along with updated lighting and screening to enhance the space.

Pool Deck Enhancements: The redesigned pool deck now includes a new canopy structure for shade, a mosaic tile border around the pool, and more loungers for passenger relaxation.

Sustainability Initiatives: The ship has been updated with eco-efficient technologies such as a heat recovery system, enhanced chiller technology, and an Organic Rankine Cycle system for auxiliary electricity generation. Onboard fresh water is generated through seawater treatment and the Nordaq filtration system has replaced single-use plastic bottles. Waste management has also been upgraded with new facilities including a glass crusher and cardboard compactor.

Exterior Branding: The ship’s funnel showcases the polished steel and LED-lit three-sail emblem of Ponant Explorations Group, reflecting its connection to the parent company’s brand identity.
Post-refurbishment, Paul Gauguin embarked on its first journey of the 2025 “Boutique Crossing Collection,” which includes a 14-night Immersive Indonesia voyage from Singapore to Australia and a subsequent 16-night Crossing Melanesia trip to Fiji. The vessel is set to return to its regular routes in French Polynesia starting in May, offering all-inclusive itineraries lasting from 7 to 14 nights across the Society Islands, Tuamotus, Cook Islands, and Marquesas.
