AmaWaterways Expands Douro River Fleet with the Introduction of AmaSintra

AmaWaterways has enhanced its fleet on Portugal’s Douro River with the introduction of the new vessel, AmaSintra. This 102-guest ship began operations recently and now joins the existing AmaDouro and AmaVida on this popular waterway, increasing capacity for Portugal sailings.

AmaSintra boasts 51 staterooms, a sun deck pool, a fitness room, and a main dining area featuring local cuisine. It is part of AmaWaterways’ "Enticing Douro" itinerary, a seven-night cruise that includes stops in Porto, Regua, and Salamanca. Additionally, guests have the option to partake in a three-night pre-cruise land program in Lisbon.

Kristin Karst, co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways, shared that there is a growing interest in Portugal as a river cruise destination. She emphasized that AmaSintra aims to provide exemplary service and a great guest experience throughout the season, running until late December.

The vessel was officially named during a christening event in Porto, where Jenn Lee, President of Vacation Planners, was honored as AmaSintra’s godmother. Lee was recognized for her leadership in the travel industry and her alignment with AmaWaterways’ core values. Karst remarked that Lee embodies the spirit AmaSintra will represent as it commences its journey.

The launch of AmaSintra is part of a broader trend for AmaWaterways, coming shortly after the inaugural vessel set sail on Colombia’s Magdalena River, marking a significant period of growth and geographic expansion for the cruise line.
