Royal Caribbean Suspends Visits to Labadee, Haiti: What You Need to Know

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has made changes to its cruise itineraries, pausing all visits to Labadee, Haiti, due to increasing security concerns in the area. This private island resort had been a popular destination for many of RCI’s ships.

The decision comes in light of the rising levels of crime, gang activities, and civil unrest in Haiti. The U.S. Department of State has even issued a Level 4 travel advisory, urging against travel to the country due to the significant risk of kidnapping, violence, and limited healthcare services.

As a precaution, Royal Caribbean has temporarily suspended future trips to Labadee and has directly communicated itinerary adjustments to those affected. Approximately a dozen RCI vessels had planned stops at Labadee, primarily on roundtrip journeys from Florida locations such as Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Port Canaveral. It’s currently unclear whether RCI will designate an alternative port to replace Labadee on these schedules.

Labadee has historically been a favorite port for cruise passengers, offering various amenities including a rollercoaster, water slides, and a family-friendly atmosphere, making it a key attraction in the Caribbean.
