Ege Port Kusadası Announces Completion of First Phase in Solar Energy Investment Project
Ege Port Kusadası in Turkey, managed by Global Ports Holding (GPH), has successfully completed the first phase of its solar energy investment project. This initiative aligns with the port’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and aims to transition fully to renewable energy sources.
The newly installed rooftop solar power plant is expected to generate about 312,552 kWh of electricity annually, a significant milestone for Ege Port Kusadası. The project, which cost approximately $300,000, includes 426 solar panels and five inverters, and is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 223 tons per year.
Looking ahead, a second phase will introduce a ground-mounted solar power plant within the port area, set for completion by late 2025. Ultimately, upon the project’s full realization, Ege Port Kusadası aims to meet all its energy needs through renewable sources, achieving carbon neutrality.
Aziz Gungor, GPH’s East Med Regional Director and General Manager of Ege Port Kusadası, highlighted the significance of this project in supporting broader environmental objectives within the cruise industry. This initiative reflects GPH’s commitment to sustainable practices across its global port network.
Strategically situated on Turkey’s Aegean coast, Ege Port Kusadası is the main gateway to the historical site of Ephesus, one of the Mediterranean’s most notable attractions. Since GPH took over operations in 2003, the port has established itself as a top cruise destination, boasting modern infrastructure and easy access to cultural sites.
