G Adventures Announces Charter of Expedition Ship Ocean Adventurer for Antarctic Cruises
G Adventures has announced that it will be adding the expedition ship Ocean Adventurer to its fleet for the upcoming Antarctic cruise season. The vessel, built in 1985, is being chartered from SunStone Ships and will be operated under a charter by Quark Expeditions. It will replace G Adventures’ current ship, the Expedition, and is slated to begin operations in October 2025.
The Ocean Adventurer features six decks and can accommodate up to 128 guests in its 70 staterooms. Onboard amenities include a restaurant, bar, presentation lounge, library, fitness area, and an observation deck with outdoor jacuzzis. The ship is equipped with 11 Zodiacs to facilitate two daily excursions for its passengers.
In line with G Adventures’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the Ocean Adventurer has undergone extensive renovations, including new engines that enhance fuel efficiency. The company anticipates that the transition will lead to a reduction in the overall carbon footprint per person per day by up to 30%. The ship meets Ice Class 1A standards, ensuring safety and improved maneuverability in polar regions, and features updated stabilizers for enhanced sailing comfort.
G Adventures will offer five Antarctic itineraries aboard the Ocean Adventurer, which include the 11-day Antarctica Classic, the 21-day Spirit of Shackleton, and a 22-day journey to the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica.
