HX Expeditions Finalizes Refurbishment of the Spitsbergen: What to Expect

HX Expeditions has successfully completed a significant refurbishment of its ship, the Spitsbergen. Following a substantial investment of €7 million, the enhancements aim to increase guest comfort and operational efficiency.

The refurbishment includes the introduction of new guest spaces, such as the Brygga Bistro, an informal dining area on Deck 5 that offers high-quality snacks and light meals available at various times throughout the day. This dining option is designed to provide a more relaxed and flexible experience for guests, aligning with HX’s all-inclusive cruise offerings which began in November 2024.

Additionally, the ship now features a state-of-the-art Science Center, reinforcing HX’s commitment to science and education. This dedicated space offers interactive screens, lecture areas, a small library, and workstations, aimed at fostering discovery and hands-on learning. The Science Center is especially relevant for Svalbard, a critically important area for climate research. Last year alone, HX supported numerous research projects during voyages.

The revamped Explorer Lounge & Bar has also been updated with new seating and features a new Signature Cocktail Range, showcasing handcrafted drinks inspired by the company’s polar itineraries. Furthermore, improvements have extended to crew areas and dining facilities, enhancing inclusivity through newly refurbished ADA-compliant bathrooms and interpretation systems.

After the refurbishment, the Spitsbergen has resumed operations welcoming guests for its summer season in the Arctic, and it is set to return to Norway for winter sailings. The ship will offer new itineraries, including the Ultimate Norway – Arctic Expedition under the Northern Lights, featuring seven-night voyages that take place beyond the Arctic Circle between January and March 2026.
