The Orient Express Corinthian: A Milestone Float-Out at Saint-Nazaire

The ultra-luxury superyacht, Orient Express Corinthian (OE Corinthian), was successfully floated out on June 16th at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, marking a significant achievement in maritime design and hospitality.

With a gross tonnage of 26,200 GT and a length of 220 meters (722 feet), this vessel is set to be the largest sail-equipped yacht, under the renowned Orient Express Line managed by Accor Cruises. The construction began with steel cutting in early 2024 and progressed to keel-laying in January 2025. Now transitioned into the fitting-out stage, the hull has been built from 14 structural sections.

The ship’s innovative design includes a balestron rig featuring three pivoting 100-meter masts that can hoist about 1,500 square meters of rigid sails, which is known as SolidSail—representing the first commercial use of this technology, with sails folding when not in use.

Under optimal wind conditions, OE Corinthian can sail purely using its sails, achieving speeds of up to 17 knots. When additional power is needed, a hybrid propulsion system kicks in, utilizing LNG engines with plans for future hydrogen fuel integration. Notably, the yacht will also incorporate advanced environmental technologies such as a dynamic positioning system to prevent seabed disturbance, an AI detection system for the protection of marine mammals, and chemical-free UV-based ballast water treatment.

Accommodations will consist of 54 suites, including an expansive presidential suite of nearly 1,000 square meters. The ship promises an array of public spaces—featuring two swimming pools, five dining venues led by Michelin-star chef Yannick Alléno, a speakeasy bar, an amphitheater-cabaret, a recording studio, a spa, and a cinema.

Following sea trials set for late 2025, the yacht is scheduled for delivery in early 2026, with its maiden voyage planned for June. The initial itineraries will focus on the Mediterranean and Adriatic before setting off to the Caribbean for winter cruises.

OE Corinthian heralds a new era for Orient Express Sailing Yachts and Accor, with plans for a sister ship, Olympian, expected in summer 2027. This remarkable vessel embodies a fusion of luxury and pioneering sustainability, paving the way for a future of sail-driven elegance on the seas.
