Ocho Rios Cruise Port in Jamaica Reopens Following Hurricane Melissa Recovery Efforts

After a prolonged period of restoration following Hurricane Melissa, the Ocho Rios cruise port in Jamaica has officially reopened to cruise operations on November 11, 2025. The first ships to dock post-storm were Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam and MSC’s Divina, marking a significant moment for both Jamaica’s tourism industry and the community of St. Ann, which has been recovering from the economic impacts of the hurricane that damaged the port back in February 2024.

The port was closed for 20 months while extensive repairs were made to restore its facilities and ensure it was ready for operations. For many local businesses—including tour operators and craft vendors—the resumption of cruise activities heralds the return of much-needed economic stability.

Residents gathered along the harbor to witness the arrival of the ships, viewing it as a hopeful sign for the resurgence of the tourism sector in the area. Local authorities are set to hold a formal reopening ceremony the day following the ships’ arrival to acknowledge the hard work that led to the port’s recovery and to reaffirm its status as a vital cruise destination in Jamaica.
