Mooring Incident at Ocean Cay: MSC Seaside’s Brief Disruption Explained

During operations at MSC Cruises’ private island, Ocean Cay, on February 5, 2026, the ship MSC Seaside encountered strong winds that compromised its mooring conditions. This resulted in several securing ropes failing, causing the ship’s forward section to drift away from the pier while some passengers were still disembarking.

Although the stern of the ship remained secured, those leaving the ship were temporarily held on the pier until the crew could stabilize the situation. The bridge team promptly engaged the bow thrusters to maneuver MSC Seaside back into its original position at the dock. Once the vessel was secured, the gangways were reconnected, allowing passengers to return safely to the ship.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and inspections indicated that there was no significant structural damage to either the vessel or the pier. At the time, MSC Seaside was completing a short roundtrip voyage from Miami, scheduled between February 2 and February 6, which concluded successfully on time upon its return to Miami.
