Carnival Cruise Line Announces Changes to Caribbean Fleet Deployment for the 2027-2028 Season
CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has revealed an update to its deployment strategy for the 2027-2028 season, which involves the reassignment of two of its ships. The Carnival Sunshine will move to homeport in Galveston, Texas, taking over a position previously planned for the Carnival Spirit. As a result, the Carnival Spirit will be relocated to Tampa, Florida.
This change marks the debut of the 3,000-passenger Carnival Sunshine at the Port of Galveston, introducing more capacity to cater to the rising demand from this area. Carnival will maintain a fleet of four ships in Galveston, offering Caribbean voyages ranging from four to ten days starting in November 2027. The shorter cruises will mainly visit Mexican ports like Cozumel and Progreso, while the longer itineraries are set to include destinations such as Belize, Costa Rica, and Panama.
Christine Duffy, the president of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed that this strategic shift allows the company to serve more guests in the sought-after Galveston market while also launching new and longer Caribbean itineraries from Tampa. From Tampa, the Carnival Spirit plans to provide a range of 6- to 8-day Caribbean cruises, including selected 8-day trips that will transit to the Panama Canal. Additionally, a special 13-day Carnival Journeys cruise is scheduled for January 2028, featuring extended routes to Aruba and Curacao.
